The modern name of Kent is derived from the ancient Celtic word Cantus, meaning “border”, describing the area as a border land due to its coastal location and proximity to mainland Europe. From the iconic white cliffs of Dover to Canterbury Cathedral, an architectural wonder of the Medieval Age, the county of Kent encompasses the heritage & beauty of the British Isles. Kent lies at the South East corner of England with close transport links to the capital and mainland Europe.
The population of Kent is 1.6 million, ranking it the 7th most populated county in England. It has an abundance of orchards and hop gardens, which gives it the name “The Garden Of England”. It is celebrated for its production on fruit and vegetables, and internationally acclaimed breweries and vineyards.
Several notable artists and writers have drawn inspiration from the county. Charles Dickens J.M.W. Turner, Nobel Prize winner William Golding & Henry Chaucer are but a few celebrated individuals whose work reflects their experiences of Kent.
Tourist attractions are scattered across the county, making it a much visited location, and culturally rich & diverse. Wildlife reserves, historical castles, coastal cave networks, a wide array of fascinating museums, sandy beaches, and stunning nature trails all feature in Kent.
